As each step taken further the pathway seems to get difficult and longer. Being brought into the United States at the age of one, as a small girl everything just seemed like a joke but in reality it's not. At a point I was losing hope on myself, I stop caring, even more with my mother not giving me the freedom to be more involve due to a cultural habit that women have to be home at a certain time. But then realized that my life isn't their that if I want to do something in life, I have to work for it. I started taking AP classes and college course, to prove to myself that I am able to overcome challenges that life puts in front of me. Trying to fixing family issue, I would like to fulfill my dream and parents dream of breaking the chain and continuing my passion toward Medicine. As I would look up at the stars, I would realize that only big and unique stars are given much more attention than those that are small and the same. Living in a community where the majority of the residents are Latino, we don't take into consideration those issues that are seen everyday like obesity, that now are seen as normal. About four years ago, sitting inside a white room with my doctor, I was brought upon the attention that I had to to something about my weight, that I was putting my life at risk to many diseases. While going back home, I stared out into the streets and saw how there're so many people, especially young children, that they don't take into consideration their fiscal appearance. My parents were used to certain habits, they would tell me "Terminate todo lo que tienes en el plato" each time which means to finish everything that you have on your plate. It took dedication, and research after research to show my parents that there are many other ways in which we could eat healthy without wasting too much. I started to make plans of the foods that will eat and the amount of exercise that would be done per week. After contributing to the improvements of my families eating habits, since the age of 15 I have started a group around my neighborhood where I would lead exercise routines and inform of ways to cook a healthy meal. Many people decide not to exercise because they believe that they need a expensive gym membership to be fit. Going through all this I learned the importance commitment and dedication, that it's not a personal issue but it's world issue. I learned to love and to take into consideration everyone's issue and how there are so many obstacles are place in the way but one has to learn to overcome them. I have strive for change not only in myself or in my family, but around my community. There is much more than just having a goal, but to work for that goal.
