I am not an Education major, but I am in the marching band. Ever since I was little, I wanted to be in a marching band. I would watch the FAMU Marching 100 and copy all their moves as if I was a drum major. It was a dream that I now live. I am a member of the Butler marching band. I play clarinet and hope out anyway that I can. I have painted the practice and game field for our performances. I have painted the band storage room in Hinkle field house. I try to help out as much as possible. Not because I want to win awards or to be notice, but because the band is something I treasure. I always want to be a part of a marching band. In elementary school, there were classical bands. We did not have a marching band that most schools had. Then when I went to high school, you had to pick between a sport and the band. I could not believe my dream of marching would come true. It was something that I thought I would never be able to do. I loved the first practice and everyone was friendly. All the upperclassman embraced me and the other freshman. Even when I was sad that I would be 700 miles away from home, the members tried to make me feel at home. It cared about my well-being, even though they just met me. They did not make you prove myself. They were just happy that I choose Butler and joined the band. They did a lot for me, and I would do anything for them. This is why I help the band. It is my family and home away from home. Everyone, to me, is like a sibling, and Mr. McCullough is our dad. Without the band, I would of transferred by second semester my freshman year. I was lonely and the band filled that void. It is the reasons I had to come back to Butler.
