The Dangers of Distracted Driving Distracted Driving has become a real and dangerous threat in America. People think distracted driving is only related to cellphone use. While cellphones play a big part it isn’t the inly culprit. Eating, putting on makeup or even getting dressed while driving is extremely dangerous. While many people drive while being distracted, there are ways to prevent it. Knowing the dangers is half the Battle. Distracted driving is the act of driving while engaged in other activities. For example, looking after children, texting, talking on the phone or to a passenger, watching videos, eating, or reading are all factors of distracted driving. These activities take the driver’s attention away from the road. All distractions compromise the safety of the driver, passengers, bystanders and those in other vehicles. Driving with a dog or any pet can be very dangerous. An uncaged or unharnessed animal can be a constant distraction. Driver distraction has been determined to be a contributing factor in estimated 8–13 percent of all vehicle crashes.
