Summary: Lululemon Athletica Inc is a yoga-inspired athletic apparel company based in Vancouver. Recently, Lululemon Athletica Inc has decided to let go of its executive Tara Poseley as her position is being eliminated. Lululemon decided to lace the design direction of its men’s and women’s line under one executive. Lee Holman has been named executive vice-president who will oversee both men’s and women’s product design that eliminated Poseley’s job. Prior to working for Lululemon, Poseley worked at Kmart as a head of Kmart’s apparel division and served as a president of the Disney stores. To begin with, I will analyse how this article relates to chapter 12 “Organizing and work”. Lululemon is trying to reorganize its men’s and women’s products design under one executive. Businesses organize for many reasons. For example, they may organize to establish lines of authority, improve productivity and to make communication easier. Holman who was formely the senior vice president of the company’s women line will report directly to chief executive Potdevin. This makes Holman a subordinate of Potdevin, which means he may be delegated tasks and responsibilities. Lululemon follows the rule of Unity of Command as each employee only has one immediate supervisor else confusion may occur. In 2013, Lululemon took accountability by recalling its yoga pants as they were see through. Lululemon is trying to elevate its innovative design.Lululemon is trying to make things simpler by only having one executive give directions instead of two. As we know under unity of command, that having two supervisors may cause confusion. The same principle applies with Lululemon; they are trying to simplify things so only one person is in charge and has a clear vision of the company’s goals and missions so no confusion can occur. I believe it is very important to reorganize the company as the trends change and Lululemon is doing exactly the same thing. "Changes to the organizational structure, including the new role of Creative Director, are critical to executing upon our 10-year vision," said Mr. Potdevin. That quote proves that Lululemon is thinking critically about their long terms plans to stay in the business as the consumer demand changes. Also, I was quite shocked after reading this article because I had never heard of any recalls by Lululemon. I always affiliated Lululemon with good and durable quality products. I was astonished when I found out Lululemon had to recall many of its items due to a defect in the product. In conclusion, I was surprised yet quite impressed by Lululemon’s efforts to try to turn things
