Freedom’s Never Given, It’s Demanded. I believe that freedom is demanded, not given. Old times like when Dr. Martin King Junior made his speech demanding freedom for African-Americans, represents this. Although people can say they are giving us freedom, they may not follow through, and we have to demand it. All these stories all battle down to three things: they got to demand demand freedom due to wanting a brighter future, unequal rights and selfish leaders. We must demand freedom because of selfish leaders. A example of a selfish leaders would be Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speech, where he states is “It is obvious that America has defaulted on this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient fund". But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt.” This quote shows selfish leaders because it talks about how they are trying to give them a bad check but they won't take it. In dr. Martin Luther King jr’s speech, he started speaking about how he wanted a new beginning and brighter future. he stated “Nineteen sixty-three is not an end,but a beginning. and those who hope that the negro needed to blow off steam and will be content, will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to as usual”. The quote shows that he was determined to reach the goal in which he had set for himself and the people he reached out to. Also, in Cairo: My city, our revolution, it talks about how they needed to save their city. It states “...and we were doing what we egyptians do best, what the regime ruling us had tried so hard to destroy. We had come together, as individuals, millions of us, in a great cooperative effort.and this time our project was to claim and save our country. (Soueif 38-43).
