Love is a dynamic concept that is brought up in every day lives and each person has his or her own belief about what love might be. It is something that has been present in society since the beginning of time and will be here until the end of time. Some believe love is an emotion while others believe that love is an action. Due to the complexity of this word it makes the topic of love one that one cannot define, but must interpret based on beliefs. According to the English Standard Version of the Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.…show more content…
Selfish love is something that a person will do because they believe that they are doing something good by committing a skewed act like suicide. A news article from Greece reports, “A father murdered his six-year-old son by throwing him from a hotel balcony in an act of "selfish love", the boy's mother told a Greek court yesterday…The court on the island of Crete later heard how Mr. Hogan, (33), who also jumped 15 meters (50ft) from the balcony of their room clutching their daughter, believed he was "taking his kids to heaven”. Ms. Hogan had broken down in tears as she described the night, in August 2006, when her husband gave her "a crazed look" and is then believed to have hurled Liam from the balcony, and then jumped himself with two-year-old Mia. Liam died of head injuries but Mr. Hogan and Mia survived with broken limbs.”(Irish Times, 2008) This father believed that by killing his children and himself he would be removing them from the evils that the world holds.
