What are other types of abuse? Continued… • Neglect/acts of omission - Neglect is the refusal or failure to fulfil a person’s needs. Neglect may also mean failure of someone or a care provider whom has to provide care/necessities for someone. This could be not providing them or helping them with the day to day things that they need in life. This could be anything from hygiene, feeding and giving them water to comfort and personal safety. For example in a care home a form of neglect could be lead be leaving a person and not comforting them and therefore they then feel uncomfortable and lonely. Acts of omission is a type of neglect. This is when a person does not provide necessities for them self-e.g. food and water or their personal hygiene isn’t great. For example a form of self-harm/neglect in a care home or has a carer may be that the person doesn’t look after their personal hygiene very well and therefore is starting to smell, a carer for this person may pick up on it. • Institutional abuse- Institutional abuse is when service users are separated from family, friends and the outside world interactions. This could be not letting family/friends visit, giving the service user a strict timetable to abide by or there being a clear difference between different roles within the service. For example a form of institutional abuse in a care home would be giving the service user a set timetable and not letting them do the day to day things that they usually would be able to do by their self. • Domestic abuse- Domestic abuse is the abuse within a relationship (family/friend/partner). It is usually repeated and is done to control one or the other within the certain type of relationship. Domestic abuse can either be physical, intellectual, emotional or social. For example a form of domestic abuse in a care setting would be if a person is looking after their partner at home they may repeatedly hit them, insult them or not let them out the house as they may have a feeling of…show more content…
This could include not providing for someone’s needs, humiliating them or just not liking them due to the points above. For example a form of discriminatory abuse in a care home could be that a staff member may not want to look after a certain person due to the type of disability that they have, they may feel uncomfortable looking after them and therefore may not look after them and so they aren’t meeting that service user’s
