2.1 Overview In recent decades, the issue of English writing was the center topic of many challenging and important subjects in second language teaching and learning. Many times, we have heard or even read that some of educated Iranians are unable to write their papers in English. This problem is not without a solution. There are people who can solve the problem and write an article in English for them, but whether it is a solution of the problem? Absolutely not. Writing, opposed to speaking that is the natural characteristics of the human, is not a common capability, but it is a special gift that has been given to certain individuals. Moreover, the practice of writing can help students that become familiar with different steps in writing a text and then by focusing and exercising on these writing phases improve their language learning. Since, according to Emig (1977), writing is not merely valuable or special thing, but it is unique of learning and also the possibility that some students and even teachers do not have a complete understanding of the writing process, so scholars have special attention in the writing process. Therefore, all researchers need to be aware of whatever those adolescents know about writing an essay and determine a road map for improving their writing ability. He believed that writing is as a process and teachers are teaching a process, not only a product. He stated, writing “is the process of discovery through language. It is the process of exploration of what we know and what we feel about what we know through language. It is the process of using language to learn about our world, to evaluate what we learn about our world, to communicate what we learn about our world” (p. 2). In addition, Murray (1972) divided writing process into three main stages, including prewriting, writing, and rewriting (Figure 2.1).
