According to Gupta (2008), training is the process of increasing the knowledge and skills for doing a particular job. It is an organized procedure by which people learn knowledge and skills for a definite procedure. The purpose or training is basically to bridge the gap between job requirement and present competence of an employer. Training is aimed at improving the behavior and performance of a person. Training helps to improve the quality and quantity of work output. It increases the knowledge and skills of employees. As a result the productivity and performance of the organization increases. Training helps to reduce the time and company policy required to reach the acceptable levels of performance, and there is no time wasted through trial and error. Training helps employees to grow faster to their career thus helping them to promotion to higher posts. It develops positive attitudes among employees. Job satisfaction and morale are improved due to rise in earning and job security of the employees. This reduces employee grievances because opportunities for internal promotion are available to well trained personnel. All training activities must be related to specific needs of the organization and the employees. A training program should be launched only after the training needs are assessed clearly and specifically. The effectiveness of a training program can be judged only with the help of training needs identified in advance. In order to identify training needs, the gap between the existing and required levels of knowledge and skills should be specified. The problems areas that can be resolved through training are identified. The training needs are identified through organizational analysis, task or role analysis and manpower.
