Technology’s use in education is becoming an increasingly important part of higher and professional education (Wernet, Olliges & Delicath, 2000). The U.S. Department of Education National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) (NCES, 2010) reported that novice teachers were more likely to use computers or internet to accomplish various teaching objectives. How can teaching with technology facilitate deeper more meaningful and cognitive processing? Moreover, what framework should be used to inform such decisions? In a sense, teaching with technology is unlikely to differ greatly from teaching in general. Effective technology based teaching is more likely the result of teachers' abilities to design lessons based upon robust instructional principles than of the technology per se (Savenye, Davidson, & Smith, 1991). Consequently, guidance for designing effective technology based classrooms should be grounded in the literature on effective pedagogy in general. 1. Educational Technology improves student learning outcomes: Evidence suggests that educational technologies can improve student achievement, so long as such tools are integrated thoughtfully into teaching and learning. When digital capabilities like, online environments are incorporated meaningfully into instruction, students have new opportunities to learn and achieve. 2. Teachers can collaborate to share their ideas and resources online: They can communicate with others across the world in an instant, meet the shortcomings of their work, refine it and provide their students with the best. Students can develop valuable research skills at a young age: Technology gives students immediate access to an abundance of quality information which leads to learning at much quicker rates than before. 4. Students and teachers have access to an expanse of material: There are plenty of resourceful, credible websites available on Internet that both teachers and students can utilize. Internet also provides a variety of knowledge and does not limit students to one person’s opinion. 5. Online learning is now an equally credible option: Face-to-face interaction is huge, especially in the younger years, but some students work better when they can go at their own pace. Online education is now accredited and has changed the way we view education. • How does educational technology lead to improve students’ achievement? Education Technology has a positive effect on student achievement. ISTE members have monitored research on the effectiveness of technology in education on student outcomes for more than 20 years, and one convincing trend has emerged: when implemented appropriately, the integration of technology into instruction has positive effects on student achievement.
