INTRODUCTION: Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies. Many people believe that it is immoral and even consider it to be murder. What is the meaning of abortion? Abortion is usually defined as the “abnormal termination of pregnancy, spontaneous or induced” (Barzelatto & Faundes, 2006). There are usually two sides of people when it comes to abortion. The pro-life and the pro-choice side. These two sides have different views on abortion, throughout this paper, it will be discussed the views on the pro-choice side on abortion. Each woman has different reasons to decide to commit an abortion and is either willing to put an end to their child’s life or permit it to live, even if it is unwanted. In 2011, 45% were unintended pregnancies for every 1,000 women ages 15-44 (Guttmacher, 2018a). In the United States, unintended pregnancies are higher than any other countries. An unexpected pregnancy has the potential to become a blessing or an inconceivable challenge depending on the individual and her current place in life. Leading to an abortion or to continue the pregnancy. Individuals from pro-life perspective believe that women deserve the right to control their own bodies, without interference from anyone. The women’s movement in the 1970’s demanded legal abortion as a right which should be available to all women, no matter the circumstances (Abortion, 2013). Laws now exist where parents, husbands, government etc. are allowed to prevent pregnant women from having abortions. The story of Luisa, she was an eighteen-year-old girl. She worked as a sales clerk in a boutique and she was also going to school. In the boutique, she met Carlos who will be her boyfriend. The relationship continued to intensify in the following months. Which soon the couple had intercourse. Luisa was on birth control, but she noticed that she was having headaches and that her menstruation was late. She soon came to the conclusion that she was pregnant. She was uneasy about the circumstances, but she was also happy to be expecting a child from Carlos. When she told Carlos, he was angry and frustrated and asked her to abort the child because it would ruin his career. Luisa told her mother, and her mother recommended her to abort the child because her dad would not accept the pregnancy. From having pressure from her mother and her boss she later aborted the pregnancy. Clearly, abortion occurs because a pregnancy was unintended or later became unwanted.
