There are many differences and similarities between the two versions of the Cinderella stories (Zimbabwean & French), they both face many obstacles, have wicket evil stepsisters/mothers but they also both end happily ever after. The differences in the Zimbabwean story is that the mean and evil sister went through the obstacles before the kind Cinderella did. When going through the obstacles she would come across an older women that tells her how to act in order for her to get through the obstacles gracefully. Instead of the evil step sister listening to the old women she ignored her. When going through the forest she would come across some laughing trees that she is not to laugh at, but instead she begins to laugh with the trees. As said in…show more content…

One of the obstacles in the French version was that Cinderella had to go into garden and bring he fairy godmother a pumpkin that she would soon turn into a fine coach, gilded all over with gold. “Run into the garden, and bring me a pumpkin. She struck the pumpkin with her wand, and it was instantly turned into a fine coach, glided all over with gold.” (“Perrault”). Now they also both had to deal with evil step sisters/mothers in the French version Cinderella would get her sisters ready for special events and they would still make her feel as if she was un-pretty or unwanted. One sister asked would she like to go to the ball even though she wanted to she still made up a reason as to why she didn’t want to. The sisters replied mean as usual saying, “it would make the people laugh to see a cinderwench at a ball.” (“Perrault”). In the Zimbabwe she really wasn’t an step sister nor mother but she acted as if she was one due to her being so mean and evil to others, also her thinking she was better.
