Did you know there are multiple versions of, “Cinderella” around the world? Some are very similar some are very different. For example, the French version of Cinderella or “The Little Glass Slippers” and the German Cinderella both face many of the same obstacles except in the way some people were punished. In “The Little Glass Slippers” and the German Cinderella they both face ill-mannered stepmothers and stepsisters, both faced a dreamlike transformation which made the prince fall in love at first sight, but in “The Little Glass Slippers” the sisters were treated differently than in the German tale. Similarly, in both “The Little Glass Slippers” and the German Cinderella they both faced rude stepmothers and stepsisters. In both tales the princes was so eager to see who the beautiful young ladies were they held an event for every lady to try on the slippers. After the 3 day ball ended at the event to try the slippers on the princes said, “No one shall be my wife except for whose foot fits this golden shoe.” (Grimm). No one thought it was Cinderella who was the gorgeous young princess everyone had seen. So when she came to try the shoe on everyone laughed and said its no way the shoe is going to fit you, but sure enough it did. In both tales the sisters ran to Cinderella’s side apologizing for all the mistreatment. In the French version Cinderella forgave the stepsisters and allowed them to live at the palace with her and found them two men whom they married. In the German Cinderella the two sisters were punished for their mistreatment of Cinderella. The stepsisters in the Germans tale eyes were poked out by two pigeons and they were blind for the rest of their
