Final Paper: Michael Jackson Beauty Tang CSN: Music 125-1012 The artist that I picked for the final paper as my favorite is Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was a talented song writer, dancer, choreographer, producer, singer and philanthropist. He was a legend, the King of Pop. There is no one else like him. Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana on August 29, 1958 . He was the 7th child of Joe Jackson and Katherine Scruse . Michael had 8 siblings, Maureen, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, LaToya, Marlon, Randy and Janet . Michael started singing when he was young with his brothers. Their group was known as the Jackson 5 . The group went on to appear in T.V shows and series which Michael hated to do. Michael taught that it was a bad idea to do a T.V. series and felt that it would ruin their singing career. Michael did film with Diana Ross in “The Wiz” and met Quincy Jones at the premier . He then collaborated with Quincy Jones and made another album called “Off the Wall”. It was this album that really stated Michael Jackson as a solo artist . One of the songs from “Off the Wall” album, “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough” was the first song that Michael Jackson wrote by himself . It was a hit, and won him his first Grammy Award . Although he won the award, Michael was still devastated that it didn’t get nominated as the record of the year . The album sold almost 6 million copies. He felt that it was ignored and he was hurt. He promised himself that he won’t be ignored next time . So he began making another album and that it must surpass the success of the “Off The Wall” album . Michael did “Thriller” for his new album, and it was hit . It had more than one song that went number songs such as “Billie Jean”, “Beat It”, and “Thriller” . He was one of a kind. He was very talented artist, a genius in his craft. The people who works with Michael were very impressed with his great talent, him being so focused, and who has good work ethic . According to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Michael was “one of the world’s most acclaimed entertainers, an innovative and exciting songwriter whose dancing seems to defy gravity and has been heralded by the likes of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly” . Barry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records feels that the title “King of Pop” was not big enough for Michael and he thinks that Michael was “The Greatest entertainer That Ever Lived” . To his fans, Michael was number one. Michael’s legacy will live forever. His music will live forever. According to film critic Alex Fletcher, “We see Michael as a perfectionist, a generous boss, a tough taskmaster, and a playful child” . “As a person, some people say that he was shy, friendly, trusting and love kids. But there are others that think he was a freak because he was acting like a kid and plays with kids. Not to mention the case that was filed against him regarding molesting some kid. Some people says he was stupid because of his actions on how continues to have kid party in his home after he was accused of molesting one. To his fans and friends, he was innocent, but others think that he was guilty and paid the boy just to shut him/or the boy’s parents up.
