Introduction: This study aimed to focus on social networking and its effect on mental health along with their influence on society, particularly its addiction leading to depression. In the recent years the number of youths who are using the range of social media has increased dramatically. Considering the increasing number of participants- According to (Facebook, statistics;2014) facebook has an average of over 829 million daily active users and the increasing amount of time spent using it. Social media are social software which mediates human communication. When the technologies are in place, social media is accessible communication techniques. In the year 2014, social media became one of the most powerful sources for news updates through platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Google. Social media technologies take on many different forms including magazines, internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, micro blogging, wikis, social networks, podcasts, photographs or pictures, video, rating and social bookmarking (Kaplan, 2010).In addition, there seems to be an influx of types of social media made available for the population which are utilized mainly as sharing sites and more often for entertainment basis. Although Social media’s influence is a very broad topic, I have decided to focus on three key elements of social media instead, which includes the impact of social media on mental health, interpersonal relationship with family and society and addiction
