Maureen Turner Informational Interview Thesis This interview was done at children's rehabilitation of Mount Zion. A speech Language Pathologist is a very important part of the team. We had a very detailed observation and interview. Person observed The person I observed is Lauren Oberndorf. She is a Speech language Pathologist. I met Ms. Oberndorf by asking one of the ladies that I previously interviewed. I asked Ms. Burns if she could ask one of her coworkers if they would allow me to do an interview and an observation. Oberndorf's job title is a Speech Language Pathologist. Qualifications for job To be qualified for this job Ms. Oberndorf has to have a masters degree from an accredited school of Speech Language Pathology, licensed in the state of Georgia as a Speech Language Pathologist. Also, she has to be certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association. Ms. Oberndorf has to be a member and participate in the American Speech Language Hearing Association and the Georgia Speech Language Hearing Association. Another qualification is to have a knowledge of pediatric theory and practice. Also a minimum of four years experience in a hospital or area of specialty. Basic Life Support and excellent oral and written communication skills. She completed her fellowship. Entry and promotion Experience is necessary for entry and promotion. After having experience you can choose to be a rehabilitation manager open your own practice or do research. Dates and times First, we decided to scheduled the interview and observation to be done on two separate days. We chose a weekend evening since that is the only time that we would be available. Oberndorfer has many things that she like about her job. She likes to see patients rewarded for following therapy methods and procedure. Secondly, is knowing that she will help to make a patients life easier. She is able to help her patient improve their reading, writing, and speaking skills despite the swallowing disorder or loss of hearing. she likes to encourage her patients. she also enjoy working with her coworkers. Her dislikes about her job are very minute in comparison to what she like about her job. She dislike being the bearer of bad news. It can be very difficult for her to tell patients and family members that their loved one will never be able to eat regular foods in which many times the children are too young to understand. She dislike having to spend a great deal of time with paperwork, documenting treatment and the progression, and the plan of care. This requires a lot of time completing
