Emotions are critical to our life. Feelings allow us, has human-beings, to exist and attain the fullness of our personality by motivating us towards that which is good; however, People today do not know how to manage or control their emotions; not knowing how to control your emotions could lead to major health problems. Therefore, Emotional Intelligence is important for future life success. Emotional Intelligence is a hard skill to learn, but people of all ages can develop and improve their Emotional Intelligence. People with high emotional intelligence levels are better able to work in groups or teams, adjust to change and be flexible. No matter how many college degrees a person has, if he or she does not have certain emotional qualities, he or she can't succeed. In his book, Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More than IQ and Working With Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman presents five categories of emotional intelligence. If someone didn't have these five pillars, then he or she couldn't succeed in life. The first one is self-awareness. If a person has a healthy sense of self-awareness, he understands his own strengths and weaknesses, as well as how his actions affect others. A person with a high emotional intelligence can maturely reveal her emotions and exercise restraint when needed. Instead of squelching her feelings, she expresses them with restraint and control; this is self-regulation. People who are emotionally intelligent, they are self-motivated. They're not motivated simply by money or a title. They are usually resilient and optimistic when they encounter disappointment and driven by an inner ambition. A person who has empathy has compassion and an understanding of human nature that allows him to connect with other people on an emotional level. People with high emotional intelligence levels have strong ‘People Skills’. They can build rapport and trust quickly with others on their teams. They avoid power struggles and backstabbing.
