As part of the final year, and in partial fulfillment of graduation requirements, undergraduate students need to carry out a final-year project in order to be awarded an honors degree [1]. Final year projects comprise of extremely valuable information since they account for the outcomes of first-hand research information accomplished by students within any specific department. Every thesis and dissertation accepted as part of a graduate degree programme at any University is deposited in the University Libraries' permanent collection and is a collaborative effort between the University Libraries and graduate degree granting departments and students. Henceforth, it is primordial for a system to be developed and implemented in order to allow other researchers, students and academic staff, easy and prompt access to this information. Along with the development of an access mechanism, there is also a need to develop approaches for managing the system that will aid the students, supervisors, dissertation coordinator(s) and support staff in electronic communication. Such a system would ultimately facilitate improved correspondence between the supervisor(s) and the students and would have the ability to produce statistics and generate reports on a real-time basis. Furthermore, the students can use this system to search for previous final year projects by their university, departments and specializations. They will be provided with the link to the final report along with all the references for that specific project. In addition, it has been observed that for one, theses and dissertations fall within the group of grey literature which many libraries and information centres find difficult to track down, and for another, very few copies are produced and they are usually remitted to the libraries of the institution where they are generated. Hence, the theses and dissertations lack adequate methods of preservation, to the extent that the university libraries even lose so many of them due to fraudulent library users. Accordingly, this conventional approach to FYP management poses serious challenges to library and information professionals who have the responsibility of preservation, and dissemination of recorded knowledge. Henceforth, it can be deduced that the current FYPMS at University of Mauritius lacks global visibility and therefore, a new approach must be adopted to cater for the needs of a FYPMS in such a way that it delivers maximum efficiency and
