Aliceson Fierro Lamar Community College Physical Therapist's Job Description Abstract Physical therapy is the treatment of an injury or disease through physical methods. Physical therapy is a growing profession in the medical field. In this paper I will go over the types of physical therapy and the job of a physical therapist and their assistants. Physical therapists are health care workers who diagnose and care for those of all ages. They help those who have medical issues or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform activities in their daily lives. There are five forms of physical therapy; orthepetic, geriatric, neurological, cardiopulminary, and pediatric. Every form or physical theapy has a trained professional woking in that specific field. Orthepedic physical therapy is the most common form. It is the process of restoring function to the joints, bones, ligaments and tendons. Physical therapists can be linked to hospitals or they can have independent practices. They can also be traveling PTs, schools, nursing homes and outpatient clinics. The most common palces to find PTs are either in hospitals or at their own private practices. Those who work in their own practices usually are more likely to work with people with athletic injuries or older people wanting to maintain function in all their extremities. Those who are linked to hospitals usually help those with disabilities due to medical problems or incidents that landed them in the hospital such as accidents or major surgeries. PTs who work in hospitals get assigned to patients and usually work with them out of the comfort of their rooms while they are still in the hospital and when they are discharged the patient comes back the phyical therapy ward of the hospital to continue their rehabilitation.
