One of the most common questions asked during high school is “What do you want to do after you graduate?” Though it seems to be a simple question, it is a question that requires a lot of thought and dedication because the answer creates a path for your future. I have chosen to research a career as a Physical Therapist Assistant. This career path has always been an interest of mine because I would love to develop treatment plans and procedures in order to help my patient recover. Looking into a career can be a bit overwhelming, especially when your future is right around the corner. Beginning in high school, it is important to maintain good grades to improve your odds of getting accepted into a Physical Therapist Assistant program in college. In preparation for becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant, some helpful high school courses would include biology, chemistry, and algebra (PTA “How to Prepare for a PT Assistant Career”). To participate in this career you are required to have an Associate’s Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program (BLS “How to Become One”). The program prepares graduates for a national licensure examination and provide the student with the required knowledge, skills, and behaviors of a Physical Therapist Assistant. If there was one person who could mentor me with this career, it would have to be my cousin. She has been with me ever since I was born and lived with us while she attended high school. After high school she went to Southern Miss to pursue a career as a Physical Therapist. Today, she works at Field Memorial Hospital in Centreville, MS. I feel that she would be my best mentor because she has been through all the schooling and training it takes to become a Physical Therapist.
