The cardiovascular system is also known as the circulatory system. This system allows blood to circulate and transport things such as nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, and blood cells throughout the body. This helps nourish and fight off any unwanted bad cells. The cardiovascular system is a one-way system that takes blood to every part of the body. This system contains many parts such as the heart, capillaries, arteries, and veins. The main and most important organ in this system is the heart. The heart is also known as the “pump” of the body. This is because the heart pumps blood to all the parts in your body. The heart is a system inside a system. It contains many parts such as chambers, valves and arteries. The ascending aorta is only a portion of the aorta. This is located in the upper part of the base of the left ventricle behind the left half of the sternum. The aorta is the largest artery in the body. The aorta has four sections which are the aortic arch, descending thoracic aorta, the abdominal aorta, and the ascending aorta. The aortic arch rises above the heart and gives blood to the head neck and arms. The descending thoracic aorta travels down through the chest. The abdominal aorta starts in the center of the diaphragm and connects to the iliac arteries in the lower abdomen. This is where the major organs receive blood. The ascending aorta is what supplies the heart with blood. The ascending aorta leads to all different vessels in the body which carry nurturance and oxygenated blood throughout the body.The blood then flows back in through the superior vena cava. The superior vena cava is a vein that carries blood to the heart.
