1. Research general counseling methods such as motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral theory, etc., and discuss two that could be applied to addictions treatment. Why, specifically, would the two you have chosen be useful in cases of addiction treatment? There are several different theories to consider for addiction. Counselors can determine which method of counseling is best for their client. Cognitive-behavioral theory is used to treatment depression and anxiety problems. It is also used to treat individuals with low self-esteem and those who have anger issues. For example, someone with unhealthy eating habits may use motivational theory. It can also be useful to alcoholics and drug addicts, because it is unhealthy. “It aims to guide clients in the process of changing many types of unhealthy behaviors including drugs and alcohol use, health behaviors like smoking, eating, sexual behavior, adherence to medication and offending behavior”(jointdiversity.com). Drug addicts that use the motivational approach might be able to change their poor habits. The treatment of unhealthy behaviors should continue until help is no longer needed. One parts of the brain allows people to become addicted to certain things. Some people can experience a certain feeling in which they enjoy. It can become addictive with certain brain chemistry. For example, Mike enjoy drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes, every day. Billy enjoys drinking coffee but refuse to smoke. Mike enjoy smoking but Billy does not take interest in it. “Some people may enjoy a substance or activity so much that it becomes very tempting and difficult to resist” (amhc.org). In Mike’s case he cannot refuse smoking because it is a habit that is done, daily. Another person would not experience this difficulty because they do not experience a similar enjoyment
