DISCUSSION Antifungal Alternariacitri and Geotrichumcandidum are pathogens for citrus fruit and causes loss of specific types of citrus even Benzimidazole fungicides use as a treatment of fruits(Singh and Deverall, 1984). Then decided to search bio control agents, one of the agents Bacillussubtilis showed antagonistic effects towards these pathogenic fungus Alternariacitri and Geotrichumcandidum and in vitro prevent fruit decay. Afterward Bacillus subtilis used as antifungal agent for many valuable crops. Klich et al. (1991), reported that Bacillussubtilis have inhibitory effects for some mycotoxigenic fungi such as Fusarium, Gerlacia, Aspergillus and Penicillium. Fiddaman and Rossall(1993), stated that a strain of Bacillus subtilis which…show more content…
(2001) about the extremely poisonous compound Aflatoxin produced by Aspergillus flavus. During searching of bacteria for antagonistic activity against Aspergillus flavus, Bacillus subtilis was found to have significant antifungal activity. Obagwu and Korsten (2003) isolated 3 strains of Bacillussubtilis from citrus fruit surfaces, then evaluated inhibitory effects against citrus green and blue molds caused by penicillium digitatum, and penicillium italicum…show more content…
Radiceslycopersici. In 2010 Cao et al. provided commercially available formulation of Bacillus subtilis which are used against Aspergillus flavus. Lin et al (2011) used three strains of Bacillussubtilis for evaluation their inhibitory effects on Pestalotiopsiseugeniae. This pathogenic organism infected the wax apple crop in Taiwan. Successfully Bacillussubtilis revealed positive responses in this study and that’s why promoted its commercial development and application as a bio fungicide. Recently Thakaew and Niamsup (2013) reported that antagonist Bacillus subtilis showed preventive effect on the growth of aflatoxigenic fungus obtained from bird chilli powder. According to this paper the mycelial growth of isolated aflatoxigenic fungi (Aspergillus flavus) was potentially inhibited by cell free culture supernatant of Bacillus subtilis. The percentage of mycelial inhibition increases with the passage of time of incubation. In present research we have found equivalent results with respect to previous study.Table 1 and Fig. 3 showed that mycelial growth inhibition increases with the incubation time. Because of this research Bacillussubtilis may be useful as potential biocontrol agent against aflatoxigenic fungi during food
