Definition of an Airport & Aerodrome An airport is a location where aircraft such as fixed-wing aircraft, helicopter, and blimps take off and land (Underwood, n.d). An Aerodrome according to ICAO definition is an area on land or water (including any buildings, installations, and equipment) intended to be used either wholly or in part for the arrival, departure and surface movement of aircraft (Manual Aerodrome, 1999). In most cases, however, in order to avoid confusion, the term airport has come to mean an aerodrome that has been specifically licensed for commercial aviation operations by a responsible national government organization, such as Department of Transport (DOT), Ministry of Transport (MOT) or Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).…show more content…
In airline representation the airport would work on contract negotiation and administration, inventory management and financial responsibility, whereas in passenger services the airport main responsibilities would be finding a qualified staff, coordination of various operations, catering and customer service. To achieve success, airports have to gain very high satisfaction ratings from two important audiences passengers and airlines (CAP Strategic Research, 2011). Passengers and airlines use very different criteria to measure airport performance. Passengers are looking for efficient, comfortable, attractive airports which make their departure and arrival as enjoyable - and as least stressful - as possible. This is why Changi Terminal 3 is so successful – there’s no stress. Airlines however judge airports on the profitability (yield and payload) that an airport offers them.
