There has been a recent debate about whether or not it is a good idea to renew the Patriot Act. To begin, the Patriot Act is the act that was signed by George W. Bush in 2001, directly after the tragic incident of 9/11, to prevent any further terrorist attacks on the nation. Initially, this plan seemed fitting at the time and was most likely to help the nation calm down after such a horrific event occurred on the nation's own soil. However, the extent at which the nation has started using the Patriot Act to tap into civilians phones, laptops, and other technology has gotten a bit extensive. The Patriot Act has made it easy for any branch of the government to look into the personal lives of America's citizens. The Patriot Act allows the government to perform Sneak and Peek searches of citizen's homes or apartments while they are away. It is unsettling to think that it is legal for law enforcement to break into a home while the owner's are away and then notify them about it after the fact. This disregards everything about the right to search and seizure only with a warrant and or probable cause. Those who agree with the Patriot Act are not looking at the whole situation. They claim that the government is helping us by monitoring and finding threats, however that argument is extremely weak because there have not been very many threats found through the use of the Patriot Act. The government is becoming too powerful and is slowly attempting to take away all of the freedoms that we Americans enjoy here in our country. I think we should remove the Patriot Act all together or at least find a way to limit what the government is allowed to do. It is unconstitutional for the citizens of America to have no right to privacy due to the government taking whatever information about the citizens that they see
