Young boys were left to there own to feed, hunt, and keep each other alive, men were left to there own to deal with the sea in a boat with no food or water. Other similarities that intertwine is that nature does not care on the outcome of the stranded survivors. Nature or the wild is a force or invisible non-living being that does whatever is wants when it wants. "When it occurs to a man that nature does not regard him as important . . . he at first wishes to throw bricks at the temple, and he hates deeply the fact that there are no bricks and no temples . . . . Thereafter he knows the pathos of his situation."(28) The waves of the sea helped and harmed the men, killing a character in one part of the story but improving another character's life in another…show more content…
It just so happened that the four sailors spotted the man on the coast or he spotted them. If not for the sailor's knowledge of the sea, they would not have known where they were. The sea gave them no messages or direction. The men's outlook towards the sea changed but the sea never changes, it is a constant in the story. Which is another similarity of its own because like the men's outlook changed, the boy's attitudes and personalities changed but the island stays the same. The boys allow there evil nature to evolve. They were constantly fighting and killing each other. “Which is better--to have laws and agree, or to hunt and kill?”
