A very important cause to look at of the World War One was the militarism building up in several countries in Europe before the breaking out of the war. The arms race that began in the beginning of the 20th century, before the start or the war, was started because of the fear of being attacked. Britain had earlier had the biggest navy, but then the German Kaiser started building a German navy, which built fear in Britain. (Walsh 8) Britain was nervous about the Kaiser since Britain had started to expand and colonized parts of Africa and in the Pacific, and Britain were biting their nails over what the Kaiser was planning to do with a navy. (Bitesize) In 1906 naval rivalry began between the British and the German navy, which caused much tension.
