Australia’s involvement in World War 1 was very important. World War 1 went from July 28th 1914 to November 11th 1918. It lasted 4 years over in Europe before it died down to a complete stop. There were long term tensions that caused the war and there were a lot of treaties and alliances involved. World War 1 started when Germany and Britain went to war on July 28th 1914. The war outbreak was greeted with great enthusiasm in Australia and other countries all over the world. There were many causes of the war. There were territorial, economical, and political conflicts in the 4 decades leading up to the war between the Great European Powers. Alliances also include promise and trust. The major allied powers in World War 1 were the British Empire, France and the Russian Empire which were formally linked by the Treaty of London. The main alliances were the Triple Entente and the Triple alliance. The Triple Entente was between Britain, France and Russia made in the 1890s while the Tripe Alliance was between Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary made in 1882. Other alliances and treaties were the Treaty of Versailles, Treaty of Alexandrpolos, Armistice or Erzincan, Armistice of Salonica, Armistice of Villa Giusti, Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, Bulgaria-Germany Treaty, Constantinople Agreement, French-Armenian, Armistice of Mudros, Paris Economy Pact, Treaty of Sevres, Treaty of Ankara, Treaty of Batum, Treaty of Bucharest, Treaty of Kars, Treaty of Moscow, Treaty of Poti, and the Treaty of Trianon. They were assassinated by a Serbian patriot revolutionist names Gavrilo Princip. Princip threw a bomb in the car that Ferdinand was in which failed to explode. This happened when the driver of the car went down the wrong road on their way home. Princip then fired two shots, one hitting the Duchess and one hitting Archduke. The one that hit the Duchess hit her in the stomach and the one that hit Archduke hit him in the neck. Both the victims died from their injuries soon after the incident. The main reason why Archduke was assassinated was because of the animosity of the Orthodox religion against the Catholic Religion. Australia volunteered to join World War 1 because their mother country (Britain) was preparing to fight Germany. Australia thought that other countries would have more respect for them if they fought in the war. Australia made a promise to Britain that we would always help and be behind Britain. Britain’s army was not big at all so they called for as many other armies to be in alliance with them as they could so Australia and Canada stepped in to help.
