One definition states that Science is ‘the concerted human effort to understand, or to understand better, the history of the natural world and how the natural world works, with observable physical evidence as the basis of that understanding. It is done through observation of natural phenomena, and/or through experimentation that tries to simulate natural processes under controlled conditions.’ A primary aim of science is to collect facts (data). An ultimate purpose of science is to discern the order that exists between and amongst the various facts. Science is extremely important in everyday life because through science, daily living is made easier, faster and safer with technology that people rely on for health, communication and transportation. Without science and its inventions, the society will surely reach the stone ages and we will no longer be able to live a sophisticated life. Young children need quality science experiences during their early childhood years. It has been found that teaching science to young children is very necessary and beneficial since it is known that young children grasp concepts fairly quickly (especially when discovered on their own)and the knowledge they gain at that age can remain with them for a very long time.
