Children today are a part of a digital generation that has evolved into a world surrounded by technology. Children are growing and developing differently than they did when I was young, and it can’t help but make you wonder how it is affecting our children of the future. Technology has provided and paved the way to bringing a new way to learn. The school setting and classroom environment has benefitted from this way of learning and will continue to benefit from the digital advances in multiple ways. Technology both comes with positives and negatives, and this paper includes a few of both. According to studies Li-Hsin and Tsai determined the influence of technology-assisted learning had compared to traditional ways of learning without technology. (Li-Hsin 2014) They concluded that technology provided positive effects on children’s learning capability. And the impact of technology on children’s learning is also conditional by children’s age, experience, time spent using the technologies, and gender. Children who have grown up with this technology from a young age will be in a better position to recognize the importance and central nature of technological skills. Classroom teachers are using technology in the classroom more frequently than ever before. Equipping a classroom with computers or supplying all the children with a technical device is a significant cost for any school. Schools can secure grants to help pay for technology in the classrooms. In some classrooms, technology is found to be overused! A problem that many classroom teachers face is that children often use computers primarily for games. Because of this, many children associate computers and technology with game playing. Though some teachers can use this to their advantage, if this issue is not addressed, some children may get distracted and off task quickly. The technology-enabled classroom offers access to information, but it also offers many more distractions.
