Other smartphone manufacturers have also made their place in the low-end devices market. Firefox introduced a smartphone that sells for about $33. And Xiaomi, a Chinese company sells a $100 Android smartphone that sold out in India within few hours. Android being an open platform, meaning anyone can adapt and use it, partners like HTC and Samsung have modified it to suit their needs, leaving consumers and developers to push their way through Android's numerous iterations. Google has made promises that Android One devices would be among the first devices to get official Android updates. The most recent Android update named Lollipop was unveiled in June, 2014 and it became available through OTP in November, 2014 to Google devices such as Nexus and Google Play Edition devices. But Google was unable to release its Lollipop update to the Android One devices even though they run the “stock” Android ROM. Most of the other smart-phone manufacturing companies such as HTC, Samsung, Micromax etc., also released their version of Android Lollipop with their own UI integration. But unfortunately, the Android One devices failed to get their updates and this has seriously affected the reputation of the devices as most of the customers bought the devices as they were expecting to get timely and quick updates to their devices.
