Kenya Wilson February 22,2018 Professor Manson English 1102 Remember having to wake up early every morning to go outside and catch the school bus? There is still long going on history of how many teens have had many sleepless mornings and not being able to focus and concentrate during class.The main reason according to many researchers is because teens not getting enough sleep at night . According to Wendy Troxel in her TED talk “Why Schools Should Start Later For Teens”, a number one cause of low performance in schools in teens are lack of sleep. Not getting enough sleep will effect overall health, serious issues will include high blood pressure, obesity,heart disease, diabetes and more.In Wendy Troxel Sleep health article , allowing teens to get more sleep at night will improve their health and well being. According to a National Sleep foundation poll in 2006 87% of teens don’t get the actual amount of sleep they need to be successful and productive both mentally and physically. Many people say if schools started at a later time for teens , it will not prepare them for the real world. In the real world it’s required to wake up early to go to work, and handle business or you won’t make it. Also explained in which why they think schools shouldn’t start at a later time . According to the article if schools started at a later time, students will not enough time to complete their homework assignments, they will have less time to practice for their sports and participate in other extra curricular activities. Another reason will include parents that have to wake up early to go to work will probably be late if they have to drop their kids off if the districts switch to a later
