Dana Munoz Per. 4 November 30, 2015 Republicans and Democrats The Republican Party and the Democratic Party are the biggest most important, I guess, political parties out there, well in the U.S. I don’t really understand politics but I’m pretty sure that I’m going to need to understand them because I may need it in the future. I really don’t know what to say about all this political business. So, I’m going to compare the both parties, a little bit of history of both, and what they individually believe in. The history of the Republican Party came to life just prior to the Civil War, due to their long-time thing in favor of abolition of slavery. They were a small third-party who nominated John C. Back then Democrats were known as Jefferson’s Republicans. They were strongly opposed to the Federalists and their views. Andrew Jackson and his popular position of “Let the people rule” came his publicly known nickname “Jackass”. Because of this, the Democrats adopted their symbol of a donkey. Republicans believe that the federal government should not play a big role in people’s lives. Many Republicans favor lower taxes and less government spending on social programs. They also believe in the private sector to afford opportunity, reduce poverty, and create jobs. Democrats believe in equality, quality education for all, civil rights, voting rights, workers’ rights, a voice for the voiceless, welcoming immigrants, the right to privacy, caring for each other and many more things. The last paragraph may have contrasted both political parties, when I said a little of what they individually believe in. Like I showed before, both parties believe in different things. But there are things that make them similar; they both believe or support endless war. Also, both engage in out-of-control spending, both ignore our most basic rights. This is big; they both have no respect for the rule of law. This other one sounds corruptive; both are bought and paid for by big business. These two political parties, Republicans and Democrats, care most about their own power. Last, both have a long record of expanding government and shrinking
