Justice requires adolescents have the right to make autonomous medical choices. Justice is the quality of being just, impartial, or fair (Merriam Webster). If justice requires that individual choices be respected, then in regard to someone’s capability of making autonomous decisions, that right should be respected as well. As a basic understanding, if a person can interpret facts that are explained to them, and then they make decisions based on those facts, then that person ought to be able to make their own choices for themselves about those facts. Case Western Reserve University (1) has scientific support that backs the notion that adolescents are decisionally capable and are generally capable of understanding facts and making decisions.
