Every hour of every day, men, women, and children from all areas of the world are affected by the law. Law is everywhere. It is on the streets we walk, and written on the packaging of our breakfast cereals. Law is a very complex subject, filled with years of history, and good reasoning. But what exactly is Law? Law is defined many different ways, with many intricate and impenetrable words. However, it can be narrowed down to a simpler, and more general definition. Law is “the system of rules that a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and may enforce by the imposition of penalties.” – Jason Chuma. Individuals follow many laws from the Canadian Constitution Act. Laws have existed for numerous years, and although they have evolved in great ways, the basis of them has relatively remained the same, in regards to morality and justice. Without laws, and the creation of new laws, Canadian society would look significantly different. For example, in Canada, everyone has the freedom to express themselves by means of belief, opinion, religion, by the way they dress or any other way they see as fitting for themselves. Without this freedom our society would look similar to that of in Swaziland. Girls are forbidden to wear pants, or any other article of clothing that the government recognizes as resembling to men’s clothing Laws are the foundation of society. They are enacted for individual’s protection and safety as well as to keep and ordered society and country. It is the power of the Canadian law that allows Canadians to cross the street safely, and marry who they love. It is the protection of law that allows us an option of being drafted to war, privacy, and protection from each other. This Charter was enacted to unify Canadians around a set of principles that express individual rights. What Canadians may not always recognize, is that without this Charter, and along with many other bills, everyday life, and society would not function similarly. Canada is a multicultural country; therefore it recognizes the rights of all cultures, religions and ethnic backgrounds. Without this recognition, Canada would be a completely different country. Laws shape our lives, and dictate how we act. They set guidelines of what can and can not acted upon in society, and how individuals behave, in order to keep a sustainable
