In middle and late childhood adolescence, ages 6-12 years old, children are on a different path, belonging to a generation and feeling all their own.~~~ (Life Span)Middle and late childhood adolescence are eagerly ready to learn and have a very vivid imagination. These children are curious and are willing to seek and understand. At this age a lot of things are not of importance. They think of the presence and not paying any attention of their past nor thinking of the future. This age is very important because they want a sense of belonging to fit in with their peers and they care what their peers think about what they do. Although children are past the ages of needing a booster seat, it is very important that they sit in the back seat and use the seatbelt. The airbags in a vehicle are equipped to handle an adult so if an accident occurred the airbag could hurt the child and cause danger. Safety in the home can consist of putting away all household cleaners and prescription medications out of sight especially with the middle age child. The late childhood usually has a better sense of comprehension because their more likely doing house chores at this age but it is best to let them know the harmfulness of the chemicals they may use. It is very important for school age children to limit their sodium, fat, and sugar intake. Too much sodium can lead to pre hypertension and too much sugar and fats can lead to obesity. Overweight and obesity are the result of “caloric imbalance”—too few calories expended for the amount of calories consumed—and are affected by various genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors. Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years. Obesity is a serious child health problem that persists in about 12% of children of the ages 6-11 in the United States. According to choosemyplate.gov the best food serving from each food groups for ages 6-12 years are: fruit 1-1-1/2 cups, vegetables 1-1/2-2-1/2 cups, grain 2-1/2-3 ounces, protein 4-5 ounces, dairy 3 cups, and oils 4-5 teaspoons. The recommended caloric intake for age 6-12 is 1600-2500 calories a day. This particular age children are at risk of being obese. This risk can raise concern for psychological and medical problems. The use of vitamin and supplements can help produce energy while others help build your immune system. Children can develop diabetes or even pulmonary issues such as sleep
