Personal Response: I really enjoyed reading lockdown. It is one of the best books I have ever read. I did not like how the ending left you hanging though. I would not like to go into Furnace for all of the terrors of just being in the prison. You sit there and be scared that someone will come and stab you. Then you get scared at night when the blood watch sirens blare and you hope you don’t get taken. I would have been very excited to find out that there actually was a way out. I would have been very happy being part of the escape team, even though there was a very good chance that I would die trying to get out. As they got older they started robbing houses. One night, while there were robbing a house, these tall men came out of nowhere and stopped them, and dragged them into a room. Toby was on the ground, already shot in the leg, Alex standing in disbelief. Toby then gets shot in the head, and the gun was handed to Alex. They framed Alex, and told him to run. Later that day, Alex is caught by the police. He was tried and was sentenced to the Furnace prison. Alex screamed that he didn’t do it, but no one believed him. When Alex was riding the elevator to the actual prison, he made friends with a guy named Zee. He was put in a cell with a guy named Donovan, and the three became good friends. After a couple of weeks, they started to think of an escape plan that was actually possible to accomplish. During hard labor, there were three doors in the mining job. Door number two was sealed off due to a cave in. During one shift, Alex snuck in and found out there was a river in the cave, but the hole to get to it was too small to fight through. He lost all hope. The other two guys did not lose hope, but tried to encourage Alex to help figure out a way. When Alex and Donovan had kitchen duty, Donovan
