The Value of Communication Communication plays a vital role in our everyday lives. Whether at home, school, or work individuals find themselves communicating on a daily basis. The process of developing an idea to a listener, and the listener processing that information is a significant occurrence. Without communication amongst our peers or perhaps ourselves, an individual would not be able to make sense of situations which occur around us. Communication occurs in our everyday lives, at home with family or roommates, classmates and instructors in school, and even self-talk. Communication can include verbal and nonverbal messages, these two ideas I particularly feel involved in; as college musician many facets within the future career of becoming a musician now and in future involve this aspect of communication. Villarreal agrees, “It’s good to play with people who have the same idea, to sound and entertain better.” Being able to perform with an individual who helps to make the group sound excellent is fantastic, unfortunately this is not always the case as some musicians have come and gone from the group. This idea is why I asked Villarreal if he thought whether it was important to communicate with fellow group members/colleagues to help make sure they are on the same page. Villarreal states, “It’s good to motivate the other group members, it’s a positive thing to do to make sure everyone is on the same page.” Villarreal on many occasions has used mediated communication through group text message to reflect on performances which had not gone the musical direction intended; he motivated group members to want to perform better and try to not get discouraged by an “off”
