“A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart” (“Scrapbook”). For this career research paper, I decided to research about Elementary Education. The reason why I choose this career is because my heart is passionate about children, to instruct them and help them in the development of their abilities and full potential. As Proverbs 22:6 says, “train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it”. My desire is to fulfil this daily by being an elementary teacher. After this research, I ended up falling more in love with Elementary Education and my desire of being a teacher was strengthen significantly. First of all, it’s important to clarify that teaching, more than an occupation, is a commitment that requires passion (“Elementary School Teachers” video) and its end goal is to touch the lives of children and develop lifelong learners who appreciate and value school. Teachers can teach from a preschool level to a university level. So, why choose elementary? So, as said before, elementary teachers teach a variety of subjects. Therefore, if someone wants to be an elementary teacher then they should study Elementary Education. This career will provide the basic and advanced knowledge required. Some of this basic knowledge includes the following: English language, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography. To be a successful teacher knowledge of the structure of the language, grammar, spelling of words, and rules of composition is required. Also, one should know the basics of Arithmetic, Geometry and Statistics. Along with that, a basic knowledge of the world and the human body in a scientific level is also needed.
