In 1860, there were more than 400,000 slave owners along with more than 4,000,000 slaves in the United States. However, the slavery span got doubled when the African slaves first arrived in the new world. Their life was very barbarous in Africa. However, before stepping on the American shores, Africans didn’t know their lives were going to be more brutal than ever. The slaves’ conditions were horrible. Housing, clothing and other materials were given by the owners and the slaves had to do their best to survive with these materials. None dared to complain because if they did, they would be whipped. Also, the slaves were punished on the basics of their labor. For example: if the slaves worked on the sugar cane farms they had to do very hard work
