We shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I still do – I jump to conclusions and formulate my judgements, even though if the individual is unfamiliar. For example, if I see idiotic behaviour I spontaneously give the individual a dispositional attribute, like “he kicks the chairs onto the floor – he’s definitely an idiot. Instead of automatically judging people’s behaviour on my Day of Compassion, I’ll adjust the lines of my “mental script” whenever I see a behaviour occurring, like “he keeps kicking the chairs onto the floor, but what makes him do this consistently?” This challenge is compassionate because giving a situational attribute to an individual’s behaviour would be more compassionate than giving a dispositional attribute (saying
