Both the Coates and the Baldwin article spoke volumes to me, because at the end of the day I do feel helpless. The one thing they both talked about in their letters is that as a black person, especially black male, living is not that much of an option, you have to try and survive. We as a black community have the misfortune of having to be scared everywhere you go. They are saying that this world was not made for us, but since we are already in it the white supremacy is going to make our lives immensely hard. Baldwin was talking about how black people are “set” into the ghetto, because usually the minorities have very few opportunities to get out of the ghetto. When you are in the ghetto you have very little options, because the education system is practically a joke so most people would resort to criminal acts which would result in them being…show more content…
This is absolutely unjust because how are we supposed to make a change as a black community if most of our people are stuck in ghettos where they would be uneducated, or they are stuck in a jail cell where they can not even vote. That is one of the reasons that when I have kids I am going to have to discipline them extremely well, because Coates said he had to make a decision as a parent “Either I can beat him, or the police.”This is all apart of the white supremacy system to keep minorities from making any advances in society. In Coates letter he said it is traditional to destroy the black body, and as much as I do not want to believe that it is true. All the signs have been pointing in that direction. Since slavery, all it seems that this society has been doing is finding new ways to get rid of or isolate black people. From slavery, to the Jim Crow, and now we are in the age of mass incarceration. One question that kept popping up in my head is: What are we supposed to do about this unjust white supremacist
