Summary In an article written by professors at Xi’an Jiaotong University, China and University of Engineering and Technology, Pakistan, they explore the three prominent leadership styles and how those styles motivate employees working in an autonomous, government controlled organization within Pakistan, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). The conclusion made from this study shows that autocratic leadership style is found to be the style that dominates, but also has a negative effect on employee morale and motivation (Fiaz, 2017, p. 143). The three major leadership styles that many psychologists and corporations are focusing effort to analyze are autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire, similar to free-rein. Autocratic leadership style means that top-level management is making decisions without consulting middle or lower management (Nickels, 2017, p. 197). Many times this type of decision-making is done by one person. Next, and what most think is the best style to motivate employees, is a democratic leadership style. Democratic leadership includes all levels of leadership in the decision making process (Nickels, 2017, p. 198). The failure to show the true concept of democratic leadership automatically exaggerated the final results. Moreover, in the current business market, and for that matter any market, this hypothesis would be enlightening for all in the business world. For the employee, it would open their eyes as to why they feel the way they feel towards their career and company to which they are employed. Accordingly, for the top-level owner/owners, this information would better equip them in training and equipping management within the business ranks.
