To establish sustainable competitive advantage Indian BPO companies have to leverage both their resources and capabilities. Firstly , the resources are normally tradable and it could be either tangible limiting its mobility or intangible like knowledge based technical expertise. Hence the competitive position is defined by its unique way of offering these resources as a bundled one. For instance, the early successful Indian BPO companies who descended from Captive shoring models and still remain as Pure Play BPOs (refer table 3.6) Genpact, Aegis, EXL,WNS Global were able to grow and retain their revenue earnings as top players. Dynamic capabilities are defined as the firms’ inherent ability to understand and respond to the changes happening in the environment by reconfiguring their resources in an effective manner. As a result Indian BPO companies started scouting for more ways to grow inorganically by bolstering acquisitions and also venturing into new age offerings like analytics, cloud, automation and machine language design solutions to acquire newer markets/clients using newer technologies and to stay top on the value added offerings. In the traditional BPO space Indian BPO companies were more depending on US market alone say 60-70% of their volume of business and in the BPM model traction in Europe and Latin America is more contributing their overall revenue targeting specific verticals. Expansion in these new markets is happening by ways of more acquisitions and begun to cater to US and Europe from these Global delivery centers. Healthcare, Retail, logistics and Shipping are fast emerging as more revenue generating verticals. Yet another new age is driven by e-commerce and mobile applications which is growing extremely fast in developing countries too offering more space of BPO/BPM companies to churn volumes of data to help their clients to improve their customer base more uniquely generating revenue.
