Ryan Chester Mrs.Taylor Language Arts/Social Studies March 11 2015 WWII Types of Propaganda and Allied + Nazi propaganda Have you ever wondered what really went on behind WWII? Did you realize there was another war being fought? This war wasn’t fought with guns it was fought with propaganda of all sorts of types. I am here to explain about the types of propaganda used in this secret war. One common propaganda type people think of when they hear WW2 is posters. The lovable characters like Uncle Sam that are still recognized today came from simple posters. Another example of characters from WW2 propaganda is Rosie the Riveter. Cartoons played a role in propaganda in WWII. Even huge cartoon creators like Disney had certain episodes that could be related to propaganda (WWII Propaganda). One episode relating to propaganda was the cartoon short film education for death (WWII Propaganda. This episode shows Hitler and the nazis and resistance against it(WWII Propaganda. Also in some cartoons the U.S. depicted the Japanese as apes (The Power) . Also in Germany’s cartoons americans were pictured as gangsters also in a specific Al-Capone related style(World War 2). Also in Germany cartoon creators pictured the Britians as cowardly murderers(World War 2). Cartoons played an unknown effect since most of the actual propaganda was hidden. The Nazis even had a ministry of propaganda (World war 2). In charge of that ministry was Joseph Goebbels (World War 2). Joseph Goebbels had joined the Nazi party in 1924 (Luckert, Bachrach 56). Joseph Goebbels and Hitler met very often to talk about propaganda (Luckert, Bachrach 69). Joseph and Hitler were so close he committed suicide after Hitler (Luckert, Bachrach 139). Nazis also used propaganda to cover their wrongdoings (Luckert,Bachrach 50). Germany was very good at propaganda. In fact they were so good that they could gain support for the invasion of Poland (Luckert,Bachrach 103). They made the invasion of Poland seem like a defensive act (Luckert, Bachrach 103). They did this with other countries too. The Nazis said that the country they were trying to invade’s government was trying to start a war (World War 2). Posters were very useful for Hitler. Posters raised Hitler’s power (Luckert,Bachrach 13). Hitler was on most Nazi posters. Propagandist had mostly focused purely on Hitler. Nazis needed propaganda to make its country believe in their views (World War 2). The Nazis could always get their way with propaganda. They made the public hate jews by drawing them as monsters (Luckert, Bachrach 157). Drawing Jews as monsters made the Germans hate Jews (Luckert, Bachrach 157).
