. Summarize the key events in the Cold War abroad under President Truman The Truman Doctrine was a speech given by the US president, he put forward his views on what happened between USA and USSR. He made it clear that money in Marshall Plan would be available to any country in order to help them fight the threat of communism and the USSR. Truman doctrine pledged to support the freedom loving people against communist threat. The Truman doctrine created the language through which Americans would view the world. The America as free and communist as tyrannical. The Marshall plan was a strategy put in place by the USA in 1947 which aimed to re-build the countries devastated by ww2 and stop communism spreading across Europe. Many events took place in cold war when he was a president. The first events is that he ended the Korean War. Eisenhower kept his campaign promise and traveled to Korea to try and get the stalled peace talks moving. Even after peace was achieved in 1953, the cold war continued to rage and to dominate Eisenhower presidency. Eisenhower then selected the John Foster Dulles to be his secretary of states. Dulles helped shape Eisenhower cold war policies such as change in a leadership in the soviet union and developments in their foreign policy helped keep cold tension between the us and the soviet union. Dulles believed in brinkmanship, the diplomatic art of going to the brink of the war without actually getting into war. Summarize the major events in the Vietnam War under President Johnson. Explain the assumptions on which his policies were based. Lyndon B. Johnson was the 36th president of the United States. He became President after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in November 1963. Before serving as Kennedy's vice president he had represented as a senate in United States for a long time. After Johnson became a president he had to deal with the inflating crisis in Vietnam. Even though Johnson promised to bring a quick end to America involvement in Indochina, he slowly increased the number of US troops to Vietnam to ensure the American victory before withdrawing forces. Because no other U.S president had lost the war he also hoped he would win the war. By the end of his second term as a president of United States his approval rates plunged and his hope to end the Vietnam War was dismissed.
