Our world is based off of actual life events that occurred and are the result of that as well. Within the book 1984, there is cruelity and represents other parts of the world in past dates. In our current days, the world in the book and the world that we live in aren't similar at all. We live in a life of peace while those in the book live in a world of slavery. An example between our two worlds would be something like totalitarianism. We don't live in that type of government. In totalitarianism, people have no control over what they do. In this U.S we have a republic government. This is where everything is elected and we have electives. We aren't enslaved into doing what the government tells us to do. If our government was watching us then that would be against the law and we would be able to remove those currently in titled to government. But within the book, that type of act is allowed. They don't care about your own privacy or what not. They only care about the fact that they will have power over their people and make sure that they are under controlled. Another theme would be something like war. Well obviously we currently aren't at war because we are living such a peaceful life. The thing is, in the story the party is powered by war. War means that the people within the country won't fight with one another and they will do what they can to help end and win the war. This means that they won't have a mind of their own and will listen to everything that the party would say. So as long as war lasts in the story, the longer the party will have their power. Power is everything to the party and they will do whatever they can in order to keep such a thing. Even during our wars we didn't want to listen to whatever we were told.
