Totalitarian governments, throughout history, have all had one common goal: to create a utopian society. These types of governments are headed by very charismatic, despotic leaders. Leaders, with the goal of a utopian society in mind, will do anything they deem necessary to obtain their goal. George Orwell, author of 1984 and Animal Farm, demonstrates through his books the use of: a single party ruled by a despotic leader, extreme idealism, intolerance towards dissenters, and a scapegoat.
