We live in a day and age where we cannot escape news. We are constantly bombarded with a stream of information from televisions, radios, cell phones, computers and social media accounts. The purpose of the mass media is to inform the public about what is happening in America. However, this purpose is often twisted by bias. Politics and media are entangled with one another. Partisanship seeps its way into the news outlets causing them to report information that is in tune with their political bias. Outlets will begin to report in favor of Democratic or Republican platforms and will often disregard or criticize the opposing side. The use of negatively connotated phrases such as “mounting schism” and “chaos” capitalizes on the supposed division of the Democrats. Brazile is described as “African American” who felt the campaign “treated her like a slave” and that she had considered replacing Bernie with Hillary after Hillary’s fainting incident in New York City. Furthermore, a quote from Republican strategist Roy McShane was included that called out the Democratic party for having “no message, no organization, no leadership.” Fox has staged this story so that the emphasis is placed on the current turbulence facing the Democratic party and how it makes them appear directionless. Vox displayed a headline that read: Donna Brazile’s bombshell about the DNC and Hillary Clinton, explained. This is obviously a less dramatic and attention grabbing headline than Fox New’s, but the word “explained” insinuates that Vox will shed their light onto this “bombshell.” Inside the article it states, “mainstream Democrats and Sanders have taken several key steps to ease tensions in the party.” This is a detail not mentioned by Fox News and it offers a sort of reassurance that the Democratic party is not as divided as they seem.
