House Party This paper will represent a critical review of the movie named House Party by focusing on the thematic concerns, cinematography, cast and direction. The movie House Party is an American musical performing art comedy film that was written and directed by the intelligent Reginald Hudlin and premiered by the New Line Cinema in 1990. This movie is one hour and forty minutes long, which revolves arounds the life of Kid and Play, amazing hip hop stars who express their DJ and rapping skills very well to enjoy themselves. According to the movie, there is one story that his parents are going to a vocation, Play hosts a party for his friends including Sydney, Sharane and Kid. Hip hop culture is really popular since 1990 in America. The movie shows a clear picture of the defiant nature of the hip hop fans who believe that violence is a good thing that needs to be glorified by people. It is about a crowd of black teenagers, Kid, Play, Sydney, Sharane, Stab, Zilla and Pee-Wee who go to the same school and hang out together. They believe that they should not be obedient to anyone whatsoever. Rather, they want to be aggressive and independent minded people who make their own decisions without any necessarily being affected by anyone. Once finding out that his parents are leaving home to a vocation, Play hosts a big party and invites many of his friends to come over. Disregard being lectured by his father cannot go to the party, Kid still made the decision to go without giving his father a notice. At the party, the teenagers still behave violent and aggressive to people. For example, after the party, Kid was being teased and bully by Stab and his friends. This behavior indicates clearly that the hip hop culture somehow has negative influence to these teenagers. It is this influence that is the cause of defiance bullying and the immoralities seen in these youth (Toop 29).
